Choice Eats in the Streets

The Village Voice hosts an annual Choice Streets event that brings in many different NYC restaurants and drinks to sample all night. Choice Streets was a slight twist on their original concept focusing on the best and brightest in food truck cuisine.

I went to all the plant-based trucks. And I was looking forward to Cinnamon Snail @veganlunchtruck but alas they had truck troubles and were unable to attend. Below are some of the food trucks I’ve seen around the city but had not gotten a chance to try.

First up, Taïm Mobile falafel and smoothie truck. Who doesn’t love a good falafel? This is their classic green falafel balls with a nicely balanced tahini sauce. It was fresh and light without having that heavy fried feeling. Their menu offers more enticing options including toasted pita bread, garnished with olive oil and za’atar. Let’s all say a collective yum.

I saw Kelvin Natural Slush Co truck literally 2 days before the event. The menu intrigued me but was afraid to the te risk. Now I ask, what was I waiting for. In the above image, I choose the ginger base slush with mango puree. Talk about a food love relationship. Your Base Slush flavor options are Spicy Ginger, Tangy Citrusor Green & Black TeaStep. From there you choose your mix-in: fresh chopped mint and basil and a rotating selection of real fruit purées like white peach, raspberry, pink guava, green apple, caramelized pineapple, cherry, pear, blueberry, mango and strawberry.

What I appreciate about Kelvin’s Slush is that it is has just the right amount of sweetness; not too much, not too little. In the ever eloquent words of Dora the Explorer, Delicioso!

Ever just want a fresh veg/fruit juice because you realize your gluttonous ways ae catching up to you? Green Pirate Juice Truck makes that and more. I sampled their signature green pirate juice which is spinach, celery, apple, ginger, cucumber, and lemon. If you one of these everyday, guarantee you’d increase your energy, overall health, and improve your skin. They offer cleanse programs and if you bring your own 16oz. cup to the truck, you receive a .50 Cent discount. You can’t beat accessible juice

Thanks to Choice Streets for giving me an opportunity to try new food trucks that I might not have tried on my own. They surely did not disappoint and I am certain you’ll enjoy them too.

What are some of your favorite foAreod trucks?
