Klout Goes Barefoot for Surf Foundation Beach Cleanup

I recently received a Klout perk to join a Barefoot Wines sponsored Surf Foundation Beach Cleanup Project at Rockaway Beach, NY in Queens. I get to volunteer and celebrate afterwards? Sounds like a win win so I gladly accepted. Threats of rain showers invaded the morning but it turned out to be the perfect day and weather to get the job done.

This is Rockaway beach in Queens on 91st street. I did not know that this is the only area where surfing is permitted out of all the New York beaches.

This is my cleanup buddy Kim who is/was a professional soccer player turned plus size model. We met on the bus and paired up.

On the right is Ty aka @RoxFontaine, another of the Klout influencers who joined the trip.

And Ty found the carcass of a sting ray 🙁

Surprisingly the beach was not super polluted and most of the garbage we all found was under the board walk and near the rock formation. I learned that this is due mostly to the Surf Riding Foundation who hosts weekly beach cleanups with their members.

Look at all the garbage we collected! Everything was transported to the corner for the Parks Department to collect and dispose of.

After the clean up is the After party with Barefoot Wines. The bubbly and wine flowed freely with hors d’oeuvre and music by Joshua Radin.

I had an awesome time. I meet old and new friends and associates along the way and I’ll certainly do it again next year.
