PACT Makes a Style and Social Impact

With winter right upon us, it is now the time to bring out the comfy and warm attire. As the weather cools, the need to layer becomes a necessity. PACT is a company that is beneficial to farmers and works directly with them to make more eco-friendly clothing. It is a 5 year old company that started out with creating creative, sustainable underwear and was getting bored with the Birkenstock potato sack styles. They wanted more. “We want brands that are reasonable but fun and affordable at the same time.” As the air becomes cooler, we can enjoy the new fashionable wear that they have to offer while.

As PACT works directly with farmers, they are starting to branch off into different styles. The socks come from Turkey and are non-gmo organic co-op sourced cotton. This company meets global organic textile standards and have first fair trade certified labor in India. This is where yarn is cut and sewn. They treat their employees well by giving the kids free schooling and the family gets insurance.

The company pays a premium which goes into a collection allowing the collective to decide what should be done with it. There is a low percentage of turn overs in the company and is doing exceedingly well. “This isn’t the white man commeth and tell you what you need,” says Jeff Denby, Founder and Creative Director. This company is an open and fair to all of its employees.

PACT does not use chlorine or bleach in dyes and is a very eco-friendly; more than 50% of the water used for dying is reused. They also don’t use fossil fuels but uses rice husks to create steam instead.
